My Next Celiac Happy Hour Is Happening This Friday in NYC
Join me for a night of fun, friendship, and gluten-free snacks!
I’ve had so much fun hosting events for celiacs in New York City over the past few months. It’s been really meaningful to build a welcoming space for celiacs to make friends, chat about navigating life with a chronic health condition, and enjoy delicious gluten-free food.
My next event, a happy hour, is taking place this Friday, June 12 after work—and if you’re a celiac who’s local to the area, I’d love to see you! The details are below, and you can also RSVP directly here. (Make sure to follow Celiac Events NYC on Instagram to stay up-to-date on future events!)
I’m super excited about the venue for this upcoming event. Chin Up Bar is a new business on the Lower East Side in Manhattan co-owned by Brian Grummert, a fellow celiac! Brian was diagnosed with celiac disease in his early 30s, just like me, and says his experience has given him “a strong degree of sensitivity about people’s needs.”
So it’s not surprising that the food menu at Chin Up Bar is 100% gluten-free. “The entire menu is really strong,” Brian tells me. If he had to pick a few favorites, though, he points to the gluten-free potato bread, which is made to order, and the fried clams.
One thing Brian missed after his celiac diagnosis was being able to eat fried food at a bar, which is why it’s so cool that this possible at his new establishment. “You can never get fried food anywhere because of cross contact,” he says.
As for the drinks, Chin Up Bar specializes in gin-forward cocktails like martinis and vespers—but they also offer wine and non-alcoholic options too.
I can’t wait to dine on gluten-free snacks while mingling with other NYC celiacs. Let me know if you plan on joining and what kind of events you’d like to see in the future!
