Celiacs of New York City: Come Hang Out With Me!
I'm hosting a free celiac speed friending event on September 21.
I hope everyone had a great summer! I took a much-needed break from writing (I’ll be honest with you, I was seriously burnt out), but now I’m getting back into the swing of things.

Gluten-free Labor Day weekend recap
I spent my Labor Day weekend enjoying gluten-free treats and soaking up the sun at the beach. First, I tried a new-to-me gluten-free bakery (Simply Sweet) in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, then trekked to Coney Island and strolled the boardwalk.
The following day, I caught up with high school friends at Rockaway Beach, followed by a BBQ at one of their houses (and yes, I brought my own gluten-free buns!). The best part? Both beaches are accessible by public transportation—the magic of New York City!
On Monday, one of my neighborhood friends hosted a BBQ in her backyard, and she went above and beyond to make me feel safe (she had a designated Gluten Zone). I made my favorite pasta salad recipe using gluten-free pasta (the Modern Day Pasta Salad from Gaby Dalkin’s Take It Easy cookbook) and will be snacking on leftovers all week.
Free celiac event in New York City
In other news, I’m hosting my first in-person event later this month. If you’re a celiac and you live in New York City, I’d love to see you! Check out the details below and RSVP here.
Many of the gluten-free meetups I’ve been to: A) are focused around food, and B) are open to anyone who’s gluten-free for any reason. While I’ve had a great time at those events and made some awesome friends, purchasing food at every event adds up—plus, having celiac disease is a very different experience than going gluten-free for other reasons.
I’ve always thought it’d be cool to have a space just for celiacs to connect and get support from each other—so, I was excited when my co-host Camille came up with the excellent idea to host a celiac speed friending event. I was even more excited when she asked me to co-host—and to top it all off, we’ve partnered with my favorite organization, Beyond Celiac, to help bring this event to life.
Other celiac events
If you’re not located in NYC, Beyond Celiac also has a bunch of other events slated for September. You can check out their event lineup here:
Let me know if you’re coming to my event and what you’d like to see at future events!
Christina, I'm so glad you're back — and I love the meetup idea!
I love this speed friending idea - such a great way to bring together community and meet cool new people!!
