We can make out homes gluten free but eating out can be a challenge. My rule is to always ask the server when ordering. Good news is that gluten free is becoming more mainstream and more restaurants are catering to those customers.

Totally agree! Sometimes I will call or email a restaurant before I go (or even DM them on Instagram) to get a feel for whether they are knowledgeable, and then I ask the server again before ordering just to make sure. I do think more places have started catering to dietary restrictions in the last few years for sure, so it's definitely getting easier!

Thank you so much, Hilary! I was totally not prepared at all for how careful I'd have to be at restaurants or dining in someone else's home. I really do hope my article can be helpful to people because I know how difficult it can be!
