I agree with you 100%. I have been in marketing in the gluten-free world for close to 20 years. I've never even entertained the idea of making an April Fool's joke for any of my GF clients. Why would you want to jeopardize the trust of your loyal customers by making a stupid joke? I find it dumb and careless. Do better, GF brands.
Yes!! I've spent A LOT of money at Modern Bread over the past six years since I got diagnosed (and I've recommended them many, many times to other people). It's very careless to do something like this when celiacs are the ones keeping you in business!
Someone forwarded me the Modern Bread post and was quite concerned as I had just recommended them for an upcoming trip to NYC. For those who are newly diagnosed, this could be quite confusing.
Gross! I wonder what happened there-- if they have a new social media person or what happened. I can't imagine Orly thinking this was a good idea. Wrong on every level.
It’s the same social media person they’ve had for a quite a while. I highly doubt the post would’ve been Orly’s idea! It’s a shame, there are so many of us celiacs who work in marketing, PR, and social media that these companies could tap into for campaigns that would actually make sense for the audience!

I saw the Modern Bread one when they posted it and was so surprised!

Ugh yes, that's a great point as well!
It was very disappointing! Before deleting their Instagram post, they were doubling down in the comments about how it was “just a joke.”
