Fall is officially here, and there’s a lot going on in the gluten-free space this season! As I write this, I’m traveling home from a fun trip to a gluten-free expo (more on that in a bit!).
For my fall 2024 gluten-free grab bag, I’m recapping some recent gluten-free events and favorite new products, sharing upcoming events you can look forward to, and highlighting my latest freelance assignments about celiac disease.
Recent gluten-free events
Gluten Intolerance Group 50th Anniversary Event
Earlier this month, the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) held a fantastic conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, to commemorate its 50th anniversary. I attended the event and enjoyed hearing from many celiac experts and making new friends! You can read my full recap of what I learned here:
Gluten-Free World Expo
This past weekend, I headed to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Gluten-Free World Expo. The event featured more than 100 gluten-free brands—and I seriously had to buy an extra travel bag to bring home all the goodies!
I tried samples from so many delicious brands, but the top 3 I was excited about were:
Gluten-Free Good Hope Bakery: Based locally in Utah, Gluten-Free Good Hope Bakery whips up incredible gluten-free cookies (my favorite is the s’mores!) and brownies in a dedicated gluten-free facility. They ship nationwide, so you can get your hands on their baked goods wherever you live in the country.
Clean Monday Meals: I’ve been a big fan of Clean Monday Meals’ gluten-free seasoning blends for years (the ranch is my most beloved)—and now, the brand has introduced gluten-free ramen noodles into its lineup! I took home a big bag of ramen noodles and gluten-free pork ramen seasoning.
Queen St. Bakery: I’ve heard such great things about this brand’s gluten-free bagels but have never found them at home. But, they’re making their debut in Whole Foods nationwide, so I’m hopeful I’ll come across them soon—and I can confirm from trying the bagels this weekend that they are, indeed, delicious!
During the event, I also spoke on a panel with Katelyn of @eatglutenfreeaz, Courtney of @simple.adventurous.life, and Erica of @celiacandthebeast about gluten-free travel. I shared my go-to travel tips, which I previously documented in my newsletter here:
Upcoming gluten-free events
Wicked Gluten-Free is hosting a Boston Expo on Saturday, October 26. I went to their New York expo in the spring and plan on attending the one in Boston as well. Let me know if you’ll be there!
Beyond Celiac is also hosting its 2024 Research Summit in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 26. You’ll get to hear from experts about the latest celiac research and how this research could impact your life with celiac disease.
My latest freelance work about celiac disease
In August, I wrote a primer on celiac disease for PopSugar. I spoke with Tayler Silfverduk, RD (@celiacdietitian) and Aditi M. Stanton, MD, GI doctor with Gastro Health, to break down everything you need to know about celiac disease, including symptoms, causes, how it’s diagnosed, and the treatment. Read the full article here.
Last week, I wrote about how to navigate a celiac diagnosis after age 50 for AARP. I interviewed top celiac experts from Columbia University, UCLA Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (as well as a few people who were diagnosed with celiac as older adults) for tips on going gluten-free later in life. Read the full article here.
