Up here in Canada, you won’t be finding many gluten-free only stands. At any events. It’s also been my experience that you can’t bring any food in to almost everything except high school sports. Then it becomes a game of hide-the-snack in my wife’s purse.
Another option is becoming an intermittent-faster so you can go hours without food and run on fat stores. This is what I do, I can make an entire day if need be and there’s nothing acceptable handy. Pair that with eating beforehand and planning a safe meal afterward, and there’s no issue! Except in missing out on those evilly tempting mini-doughnuts….
The fasting is an interesting idea. I used to do intermittent fasting (skip breakfast and lunch and eat after 3pm, usually with a normal balanced dinner) during week days and then off at weekends. I'd never thought of using it as a tool to survive events. Not a bad idea!
I've definitely been there with hiding snacks in my bag! I usually put a little makeup pouch in my bag to keep snacks as I find that most staff won't actually bother to open that up. (Or, I'll bring a purse that has a little zipper compartment in it and put a protein bar or bag of chips in there.) The things we have to do!
Great article, as ever! In the UK there are more vendors popping up that provide GF offerings but I tend to always take some snacks or sandwiches with me just in case. I tend to worry about the vendors who work with both GF and normal and how safe their offerings are in terms of cross contamination. I tend to steer clear of those.
Thanks, Roy! I agree with you - I stick to dedicated GF stands when I go to sporting events just because the cooking space is so small I’d be worried about cross-contact. Glad to hear the UK is starting to have more vendors pop up!

I agree Tim. The options just are not there in Canada. The best option I can find is a bag of Lays plain potato chips 🙄.
And I thought the US was bad!!

Thank you for reading - I’m so glad you’re enjoying my posts!
I've been tricked by phantom GF stands, too! I joke about always being equipped with snacks, but it's necessary!
Snacks are definitely key!
I love it when you find safe options at sports events!! Jackpot!
Yes! It’s always such a pleasant surprise!
