Great article! There are several in my family that are lactose intolerant and now I understand why they don’t have any issues with butter or Greek yogurt! Funnily enough, they do have problems with Daiya cheese and some DF vegan substitutes. Thanks for sharing this info!

The forager Greek yogurt is also a great sour cream substitute. Often, when I want to swap cheese for something with similar flavor profiles and that’s creamy, mayo can be a great sub. Rebel cheese is expensive but fabulous! I highly recommend it for an occasional treat.

A sneaky lactose source that really messes me up is in some medications. Lactose is used as a binding agent in many pills. Birth control pills almost always have lactose. Antibiotics are also a sneaky culprit. Antibiotics with lactose in them really make me feel sick (the nausea is the worst, Zofran barely helps). I read that the pills have more concentrated forms of lactose and that’s why they make me feel so sick compared to drinkinga splash of half & half in my coffee. I always take those pills with a lactaid tablet to help counter the effects. I learned this the hard way so hopefully it helps someone else down the road!

Thanks so much for sharing! I've heard great things about Rebel cheese and have been meaning to check them out. I didn't realize so many medications could contain lactose, so that's a great piece of information to keep in mind!
