Summer is in full swing—can you believe it? I recently celebrated my birthday with a Brooklyn staycation. I enjoyed so many delicious treats in Williamsburg (like this Matchaful x Addison Rae smoothie and pistachio cardamom rose cake). I’ll be recapping everything I ate in a future newsletter, so stay tuned for the full rundown!

I’m also headed to Las Vegas soon with a couple of friends to live out our preteen dreams of seeing the Backstreet Boys in concert—and I’ve got a list of restaurants and bakeries serving up gluten-free goods that I’ll be trying while I’m out there. If you have any recommendations, send them my way—I’ll do a full recap of everywhere I ate once I get back home.

The Summer Fancy Food Show is going on right now in New York City (I’ll be there as you’re reading this!). This artisanal food trade show features hundreds of vendors, and I’ll be recapping my favorite gluten-free products from the event next week.
Wicked Gluten-Free is hosting an expo in New England (in Fitchburg, MA) on Saturday, September 20. I went to this one last year, and it was fun! Tickets are on sale now.
My Gluten-Free World Expo is hosting its eighth annual expo on Friday, September 26, and Saturday, September 27, in Salt Lake City. I’m planning on attending again this year, so let me know if you’ll be there! Tickets go on sale July 1.
Gluten-free restaurant spotlight
One of my all-time favorite meals was back in 2023 at Kann, a gluten-free Haitian restaurant in Portland, Oregon, founded by Top Chef all-star Gregory Gourdet. When I learned that Chef Gregory was opening a restaurant—Maison Passerelle—in New York City (inside the chic new French department store, Printemps), I eagerly awaited to see if the menu would be as celiac-friendly as Kann.
I’m here to tell you it is! I recently grabbed dinner with (@nycbutglutenfree), Cassidy (@yourceliacsister), and Jessica Lebovits, RD (@gfree_rd) at Maison Passerelle, where we dined on plantain bread, salt cod fritters, spaghetti with lobster, cane syrup glazed duck, pommes frites, spicy pickled cabbage, jasmine rice with red kidney bean sauce, rhubarb parfait, and Haitian chocolate ganache.
Almost the entire menu is gluten-free although it’s not advertised as such (we asked the waitstaff for confirmation). The only items that aren’t gluten-free are a cocktail that contains miso, a couple of mocktails that use a barley-based non-alcoholic spirit, and one dessert made with cross-contaminated flour.
This is a splurge restaurant for sure—but totally worth checking out for a special night out. I’m still thinking about the duck and the fries (we liked the fries so much we ordered another round to pair with our desserts!).
While I was bummed that Chef Gregory wasn’t at the restaurant while we were there, we had a very only-in-New-York-City experience: the one and only Cynthia Erivo (!!!!) was seated right next to us at dinner. I didn’t burst into “Defying Gravity” even though I really wanted to…
Gluten-free products I’m loving right now
Here are some gluten-free icy summer treats I’ve tried and loved recently:
Doughlicious Cookie Dough & Gelato Bites: These gluten-free gelato bites are the perfect warm weather snack. I was gifted a few flavors from the brand, and my favorites are mint chocolate chip, chocolate chip, and cinnamon churro.
Yasso Greek Yogurt Bars: Many of these Greek yogurt bars are certified gluten-free! I stock up in the summer and am particularly a fan of black raspberry chip, pistachio brittle, and vanilla chocolate crunch (yes, the crunch bars are gluten-free!).
Jolly Llama Dairy-Free Gluten-Free Cones: Everything Jolly Llama makes is dairy-free and gluten-free—and pretty darn tasty. I like the frozen cones, with available flavors including vanilla sundae, caramel chocolate chip, sea salt caramel, and mint chocolate chip.
My latest freelance work
For HealthCentral, I wrote about mild Crohn’s disease. I chatted with two gastroenterologists about the signs and symptoms of mild Crohn’s and how this form of the disease can be monitored and managed. Read it here.
For Vitamin Shoppe, I wrote about beauty supplements and the exact time of day to take them. I interviewed a dermatologist and dermatologic nurse practitioner for their insights into which beauty supplements actually have skin benefits and how to use them for best results. Read it here.
