I took a much-needed break from writing this newsletter over the past few months because I was feeling pretty burnt out. I knew something was ~wrong~ when I spent every morning of my June birthday trip to Cancun crying! When I got home, I went to see a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression.
I started taking an SSRI shortly afterward, and it’s honestly made a huge improvement in my mental health in a short amount of time. Most notably, I’m no longer ruminating over the stupid shit that was taking up way too much of my energy previously. (If you’d be interested in hearing more about my experience, let me know! I’d be happy to write a future newsletter about it.)
Now that I’m feeling more like myself again, I’m hoping to get back into the swing of writing this newsletter more regularly. I’ve been taking Tawny Lara’s summer writing workshop, which has reignited my passion for writing!

Here are a few upcoming events for the gluten-free community that I’m excited about:
NYC Restaurant Week: now through August 16. Various restaurants around the city are offering discounted set meals with gluten-free options. My top picks are Kimmi, Jack’s All Day, Maison Passerelle, and Cocodaq. (Please note not all of these establishments are dedicated gluten-free.)
NYC Celiac Events Picnic: August 22. Come hang with me and other celiacs in Central Park! Enjoy gluten-free snacks and make new friends. RSVP here.

I also rounded up my favorite gluten-free bakeries and restaurants in Stockholm, which is where I went on my first international solo trip back in April.
For Vitamin Shoppe’s blog, I wrote about keratosis pilaris (aka “chicken skin”) and natural ways to treat it. Apparently, celiacs are more likely to have this skin condition? I guess that explains why I’ve been dealing with it since as long as I can remember…
