Gluten-Free Grab Bag: Spring 2025 Edition
Find out what's new in the celiac world this season.
I can’t believe it’s spring already! It’s definitely been a busy season for me. ICYMI, I did a gluten-free food crawl of the West Village in New York City with my friend @glutenfreeisallaeat.
My Favorite Gluten-Free Food in the West Village
The West Village has always been my favorite neighborhood in New York City. I love wandering down the cobblestone streets and exploring the cute shops. It’s also a great spot for celebrity sightings. (Any guesses for who I’ve run into here?)
I also recently went to Austin for work and found some fantastic gluten-free eats, which I’ll be sharing in a newsletter post a few weeks from now.
In the meantime, let’s catch up on ways you can get involved in the celiac community this spring!
Join Beyond Celiac’s Patient & Family Advisory Board
Beyond Celiac recently opened applications for its new Patient & Family Advisory Board (PFAB).
Members will have the opportunity to:
Share their experiences with industry professionals
Advocate for patient-centric clinical trials and research
Help drive progress toward a cure
Donate to Celiac College Guide
Some of you may remember I interviewed Nicole Kessler, the founder of Celiac College Guide, a not-for-profit organization that helps celiac and gluten intolerant students make informed decisions as they go through the college selection process.
Q&A: How to Choose a College When You Have Celiac Disease
One thing I hear a lot from people I meet in the celiac community is how hard navigating college is with celiac disease. I was diagnosed in my early 30s, so this isn’t something I went through — but I know it was a really difficult experience for a lot of my friends who were diagnosed earlier in life.
Now, I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Celiac College Guide’s advisory board! I’m thrilled to support this organization and help make a meaningful impact for college students with celiac disease. More updates to come on the work we’re doing.
Attend a gluten-free event
I previously rounded up the best gluten-free events happening this spring—and there are still a few that are upcoming.
The Best Gluten-Free Events Happening This Spring
There are so many upcoming gluten-free events that I had to send out a bonus issue this week to let you know about them! Ahead, check out what’s on deck this spring. Celiac Self-Care is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Here are a few fun gluten-free events worth checking out this season (most of which happen to fall on the same day, sadly, so you won’t be able to go to them all):
April 13th: Gluten-Free Expo in Calgary, Canada (buy tickets here)
May 17th: Celiac Awareness Night at Fenway Park in Boston (buy tickets here)
May 17th: Community4Celiac 2nd Annual Family Fun Day in Melville, Long Island (buy tickets here)
May 17th: Wicked Gluten-Free Expo in Philadelphia (buy tickets here)
Head to Trader Joe’s for gluten-free products
I visited Trader Joe’s for the first time in quite a while last week and came home with a slew of new-to-me gluten-free finds and some all-time favorites. Here’s what I bought:
Gluten-Free Yellow Mini Sheet Cake: I’m OBSESSED with this cake! It’s seriously so good and tastes like the Entenmann’s cake I used to eat as a kid.
Gluten-Free Chocolate Chunk Cookies: I’m a sucker for cookies with sea salt—and TJ’s definitely knocked it out of the park with this cookie. (Note: It’s made with oat flour.)
Almond Flour Tortillas: I like to use these for tacos as well as an alternative to pita bread when making Mediterranean-style bowls for dinner.
Brazilian-Style Cheese Bread: Brazilian cheese bread (aka pão de queijo) is made with tapioca flower and naturally gluten-free. When I saw TJ’s made a frozen version, I knew I had to stock up—and I have to say, they’re pretty good.
Garlic Spread-Dip: This has been one of my favorite TJ’s products since long before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Although not labeled gluten-free, it’s made from just a few simple naturally gluten-free ingredients: canola oil, garlic, lemon juice, citric acid, and salt. I’ve served it with cucumber slices, gluten-free crackers, potato chips, and tortilla chips.
Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Rounds: I’ve been eating my big bag of tortilla rounds with the Garlic Spread-Dip, and they’re the perfect combo.
